GENDER ROLES

                         Submitted by Latasha Carroll
For a very long time now gender roles have been given to men and women. The man would be the one that has to be masculine and tough, provide for his family no matter what problems him and his wife were having that was his role.Women were not allowed to have jobs or educate their self. There job was to stay at home have children and cook and clean, wait on there husband anyway that he needs her to.Women and men are not the only ones that had a role to play, the children did also. Little girls were taught to be just like there mother so when they get older they could have a husband they only could play with girl toys playing with boy toys is unacceptable. Little boys are taught from their fathers to be the provide for his family. The boys could not also play with girl toys our they would probably be labeled gay. In the year 2011 Gender roles have not been changed drastically but it is making progress. Women are able to work now, some women are raising families without a father being in the children lives. Women are also learning how they can educate there self, so now more women are enrolled into college. Children can now play with what ever toys that they want to. It doesn't matter if the toy is pink or blue they can play with it.Teachers are actually trying to encourage children to play with different gender toys so a little boy can realize that it is okay to play with a doll and a little girl can see that its okay if she plays with pretend tools. The video that i have found on You tube is showing pictures of how gender roles are suppose to be men are suppose to be masculine and women are suppose to be feminine. The second video that i have is a interview with children asking them what they think is appropriate for boys and girl to wear and dress. My thoughts about the topic is that i think females and males, boys and girls should be able to choose there own role. Whatever way that they are comfortable and happy they should not be judged from anyone.
