Amanda Marshall
America is being faced with many hardships: we are officially the 3rd worst country
with 45 million according to a 2009 survey in poverty. Many have complained that
better job opportunities need to be provided, that the government should place more focus
on minorities, and because minimum wage has rarely experienced an upsurge-that puts us in
a bad position for the future.
Almost everything is taxed nowadays; during years 2001-2003 was when prices really increased.
The film here asked “why the poor?” The low and middle class has suffered for many reasons:
tax cuts go to the high class which in result only makes them richer (they’re not in a recession),
also budgeting (people spend more money on their wants vs. necessities) and general capitalism.
Many believe they deserve better salary; the system needs to be reconstructed and equalized, and
are certain the reasons why they were put in this position are: embezzlement, prejudice, sexism,
etc.
During year 1938, the minimum wage was between $3-4 dollars, it’s now 2011, the wage is
about $7 so 73 yrs. later-that’s absurd. There are 41,000,000 on food stamps; many have dropped
out of school (to support their families).Statistics show drop outs however earn, 21,000 a yr. while grad-
uates earn 41,000 a yr. In fact, one fifth of the children’s populations in America are facing impoverishment. As far as income for upper class, married people make $70,000; Singles, make around $35,000. For middle class, married couple (50,000-85,000), unmarried couple (25,000-40,000) and singles (22,000-37,000).
For the lower class/group, 14 million has spent at the most 60 percent on housing while about 7,000,000 live in mobile homes. Many wander when changes are going to be made, some work double shifts to make ends meat while others are still hoping for a miracle to happen.
