Why do minorities in America lack the education opportunities given to those in the mainstream? According to the video below the problems are segregation and fast track programs.
When there are no white people in an area there is a lack of tax funds from which to run public institutions like schools. Lack of funds mean that schools have to cut corners to cut costs. This is something that is practical and can have serious implications for the students. I think that in order to get this problem solved you want the funds for education to come from the federal government so that property taxes can be collected on the federal level and redistributed equally to all school district based on the population of children in that school districts.
Does tracking destroy educational success?
Now there are two forms of tracking, One where you get promoted for successful work and one where you get demoted for lack of success. I think that only demotion should be removed. Why penalize an able students because the rest of his class cannot sacrifice their time, their energy and be dedicated as he is? I think that this is extremely unfair because I believe in hard work and the ability that a man should be able to enjoy the fruits of HIS labor. I believe in equality unless an individual can EXCEL more than another individual and this does not count if his rewards come at the EXPENSE of others. I think that life is all about choices and there are always opportunity costs but success should be based on acquired qualities and never on inherent qualities that you are born into/with.
