We Are No Longer To Be Hungry...

By To-Yin Cheng
Obesity is an immense health issue throughout the world in modern life society. There also lead us to a strange phenomenon. According to World Trade Organization (WTO), people died by obesity and over-weight are higher than to people who are died by underweight. Although hunger is still a complicated issue in this world, it is hard to imagine that a wealthy environment also bring us to the death pathway. We have more than 1.6 billion people are overweight and obesity. There are 2.5 million people are died from these illness. What should we do to deal with this public issue? Is that only change our life style or what society brings the image up of a normal affordable unhealthy food?
American fast food culture that has been influence around the world with affordable price and convenience. It is surprisingly if we take one food out like French fries which supposed to come from France, however, French obesity rate are not as much as America.  French are more likely to spend time to eating and use fresh nature ingredients. Compare to American culture, American fast food companies are promoting food can be given you in shorten time with low price and supersize. Advertising send the image to children to buy their food with toy and playground. Supposing that we disregard to the process of food production, like pink substance which makes chicken nuggets. The nutrition we got from the fast food is not going to fulfill our daily need. We mostly received salt, fat and carbohydrate. , there are lack of vitamin and mineral.  Therefore, our body is not working well, our brain will tell our body to eat more to get to nutrition that we suppose to get.
If we continuously eating fast food, it will lead we to obesity and we also have to pay for the result. Americans spend almost $100 billion on fast food each year, at the same time, the health care for obese people in the US are over $100 billion annually. People should concern about the position they are in, they are either the obesity people or the people who are paying for the cause.

This article really hits home. The fast food companies need to step up to the plate and do something to help stop all the fatty foods they self. They can serve a more balanced meal to help people reverse the obesity this country is currently facing.

I agree with you point that million of American are spending billion dollar on fast foods. I think it is also important that people should consider eating more health food and be aware of how unhealthy fast food is. By eating healthy, it's cost more than eating unhealthy. I think this is the reason why people chose fast food over healthy food. But, the modern day America people do not have no time to cook for their child, both the parents are working, and most portion become bigger. America is the FATTEST nation in the world. I think that people should take action and consider eating more healthy food than unhealthy food.

  3. I agree, it is incredible how much money Americans spend on fast food. It is also true that people have less time and money to prepare healthy foods. Nor is there much access to healthy foods for people in certain areas but with all the knowledge we now have about fast food and being overweight it is time to take a stand. We can no longer feed our children these types of foods no matter how inexpensive and quick they are. We make alot of sacrifices when having children. Living in a low income areas is hard beyond belief and the sacrifices one must make while living there is a struggle. But out of all the sacrifices spending more money on healthy foods and making the effort to eat healthy is the most important and will have the strongest impact.

I think you did a good job with this post. I really wish people were more educated on the foods they eat and how much they're ACTUALLY spending. Some people believe that by feeding their family of 4 on McDonald's every night, they're actually saving money. That couldn't be further from the truth. For example, if a family ate McDonald's and they've chosen 4 regular meals, which come out to $5 a meal, that's $20 (without tax) for one meal. That's $60 for every meal a day and $420 for the week! Meanwhile, if you go to a farmers market, you can use that money and buy a bunch of fresh (and locally grown) fruits and veggies, as well as some grass fed beef and make multiple healthy meals that could last a lot longer and leave you feeling a lot better! People need to research more and really pay attention to what they're doing. Otherwise, we're going to raising a bunch of unhealthy and dumb Americans that don't know how to even make their own eggs.

  5. I agree as well with millions of people spending millions of dollars on fast food. People fell to realize how much fast food can hurt your health and your finances. yes it may taste good and seem cheap, but when its a everyday thing it can be really harmful. I question my family all the time about fast food and a lot of them would say oh well i only eat junk food and fast food because I'm bored. That is so unhealthy and its a shame that a lot of people find eating a hobby because they are bored. we have to better ourselves people and there are plenty other ways to keep ourselves occupied other then eating.

  6. I agree with you 100% and the illustrations you posted go hand in hand with your argument. We are a country in economic crisis however we spend 1billion dollars in fast food purchases. Is fast food really convenient? Fast cheap food can lead to health complications as well an unhealthy weight. Because one does not receive the vitamins and minerals needed they find themselves hungrier and spending more money. Although for whatever reason the people in the drive-thru either do not see whats happening or just are too hungry to care.
