How is Culture use in our Society?

By Alyssa Mendez

"Culture is the totality of learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge, material objects, and behavior. Which includes the ideas, values, customs, and artifacts of groups of people" (Schaefer,38). Culture explains on how people were raise growing up in our today's society. How they learn and see things different from others from traditions, behaviors, and values.
In the picture above shows the cultural traditions of Asians. They celebrate chinese new year, which is the most important traditional chinese holiday in Mainland China, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Phillipines, Vietnam and other countries. Chinese new year is also known as "Spring Festival" and " Lunar New Year" because the chinese calendar is lunisolar. This festival actually begins on the first day of the first month in a traditional chinese calendar and ends with another festival known as the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day. On Chinese New Year's eve ( Eve of the Passing Year), they have gatherings with families for their reunion dinner. They have fireworks, dragon dances/lion dances, feast, and passing out red envelopes with money. Furthermore, they decorate windows with red color papers, which symbolizes happiness, wealthy and longevity.

Behaviors has an strongly affect on lifestyle and culture. Where they come from (state or country), The environment that they live in, and how they were raised from their families. Some enthincity take comments more seriously than others. For Example, In America, we like to conversate about subjects that happens in this society like sex, education, money and much more. In countries like Asia or Europe happen to takes these subjects as being offended. People from other countries happen to be brought up on the other side of the world and does not understand the aspects that happens in American, so of course, they are confused at one point.

They are values in every culture. In America, we learn to respect others who are older than us, having the freedom to speak on what is on our mind (which we did not have the privilege to do so), achieving anything we put our mind into, helping out a person who is in need and many more. Some countries have similar values and different values. Same values is working to make a good home. The differences are when being forced to marriage, which occurs in South Asia; For Examples, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In America, we choose when do we want to plan a wedding with that special someone.
